Nice – Guingamp Preview

Nice Guingamp Preview

Nice started slow last week away at Angers and found themselves 1-0 down after only 20 minutes. Only then Nice started to dominate and push the game forward. By the end of the game Nice had more chances than opponents, but still, the draw was a fair result (finished 1-1).

So far Nice were pretty unlucky because of injuries and suspensions. Most of the players that were forced off the field have defensive profiles and attacking players had to make twice the efforts to outscore opponents.

This week Nice will have to do without defender Boscagli who will be suspended. In case Le Marchand and Bodmer won’t return from injury Gomis will be the one replacing Boscagli in the lineup.

Until now coach Puel was forced to start with either Boscagli or Correia on the left side and this was a major vulnerability for Nice, but now they have loaned-in fullback Ricardo from Porto and most probably he will go straight into the lineup. Ricardo is a talented player and will definitely be a great addition and will strengthen the squad.

After 3 decent performances but no points Guingamp finally got their first Ligue1 victory this season (won 2-0 against Marseille). It was a surprising result especially since opponents mildly dominated and created the best of chances.

But on home ground it seems that Guingamp mobilize at maximum and all players make huge efforts. Most probably this season the majority of points for Guingamp will come from home games.

Newly arrived forward Briand quickly turned into a leader and most of Guingamp’s actions involve Briand in one way or another, forcing him to act more like a playmaker than a forward. He is an experienced and solid player but this playing style may not suit him. Looking back at his career it seems that Briand feel more comfortable at teams who have ingenious midfielders that set-up the play for him, and unfortunately this is not the case at Guingamp.

The international break was no doubt in Nice’s favor who strengthen the squad by transferring-in left back Ricardo. Guingamp are in good confidence but their resources are limited and playing against the attacking trio Ben Arfa, Germain and Plea will be too much for them. Nice -0.5 at 2.21

UPDATE: Nice’s central defender Bodmer is once again available after recovering from injury. Guests will miss defender Baca.
