On paper Nice started last round in a 4-5-1 formula but in reality they played in a 4-3-3 system and even defensive midfielder Mendy was very advanced and managed to score thanks to the attacking attitude (Nice won 3-1 away at Bastia).
In the offensive phase Nice tick like a Swiss clock with actions carried both through short and fast passes and also long balls that almost always find the target.
The only one not playing at full potential yet is newly arrived forward Le Bihan who has yet to build playing relations with teammates. But once Le Bihan will adapt there is no doubt he will prove to be an excellent addition.
In defense however things don’t look that good and Nice sit third from the bottom when it comes to goals conceded. Central defender Bodmer was injured for a couple of rounds and is still hesitant in interventions. Newly arrived fullback Ricardo is very offensive minded and often leaves his position, and unfortunately there is nobody to cover for him.
Recently coach Sagnol made a small change and moved defender Yambere in central midfield in order to make room for newly transferred Brazilian Pablo. At the moment Pablo doesn’t get along with teammates too well (he doesn’t even speak the language) and Yambere is not that confident in interventions as before.
While in the long run this change should strengthen the defensive phase Bordeaux may suffer for a few rounds until Yambere gets accustomed with his new positions and Pablo builds playing relations.
Bordeaux will welcome back forward Saivet after suspension.
Nice have one of the best attacks in the tournament, not only because statistics say so, but also because the reality in the field. Bordeaux have conceded 6 goals so far (one per game) and there are no signs that this will stop now, especially when playing away at Nice. On the other hand they can definitely find the net since Nice don’t put much emphasis on the defensive phase. Over 2.25 goals at 2.11
UPDATE: Nice will miss forward Plea while for Bordeaux forward Thelin and fullback Contento were left outside the squad (rest). Same bet
