Nantes suffered a shock defeat last round away at Montpellier (lost 4-0). Coach der Zakarian decided to start with Bessat in the lineup after the impressive performance in the Cup against Lyon (Bessat scored a hat-trick).
But against Montpellier Bessat was invisible, just like most of his offensive teamamtes, maybe with the exception of play-maker Veretout. Veretout was the only one above average but all his efforts were in vain as teammates were too slow and and even seem to lack the necessary skills needed to continue Veretout’s actions.
In defense things didn’t look any better, especially on the left side where fullback Veigneau was often outplayed and the only solution for stopping opponents was to foul them.
Nantes should be happy that Lille’s coach Girard decided to start with young and inexperienced Koubemba as right winger. If Lille continue to use Koubemba on that side they won’t be able to take advantage of Nantes’ major weakness, fullback Veigneau.
After the winter break forward Roux was mostly used as a right winger and he had pretty decent performanbces, but coach Girard had other plans, moved him in the center and he lost rythm.
Lille will be forced to shuffle the defense a bit since both central defenders Basa and Kjaer will miss (Kjaer injured and Basa suspended).
An encounter without much action is foreseen as both sides sit at the bottom of the table when it comes to goals scored (Lille are last with 17 goals scored and Nantes follow with only 19 goals scored so far).
UPDATE: Good news for Lille as they welcome back defender Kjaer from injury and forward Mendes back from the African |Cup of Nations.
