Besides being great at organization, Nantes haven’t impressed through anything else last round against Montpellier (won 2-1).
The only way they could create chances was by running wildly on the flanks and delivering long balls inside the penalty box. In these conditions it’s no wonder why Nantes have the second worst attack in Ligue1 (only 27 goals scored in 30 rounds).
Things won’t get any better pretty soon, seeing that top scorer Djordjevic suffered an injury and will miss for a couple of weeks. Djordjevic was out of form anyway, but still his experience and talent could have made a difference. He already has an agreement with Lazio where he will leave in summer, so Nantes should be thinking about finding a proper replacement.
Their other striker, Shechter, is one of the most useless players around. He is not involved in any way in the creation phase and only concentrates on applying the finishing touch. But the problem is he misses the easiest of chances, even penalties (happened last round).
Bordeaux controlled the game last round against Nice but couldn’t get more than a draw (finished 1-1). Once again they failed to be constant in efforts for 90 minutes. This is actually their major weakness.
This season is already compromised for Bordeaux, there’s not much they can do about it, that’s why they may have a problem with motivation for the remaining games, especially away from home.
They failed to win so many times this season and got equalized because of moments of wondering. By now their confidence and willpower are surely affected.
Central midfielder Traore returned last round from injury only to get a red card and get suspended. The good news is that striker Diabate, midfielder Sertic and keeper Carrasso should all return after injury.
In terms of creativity and capabilities Bordeaux have an advantage, but when it comes to determination Nantes will definitely compensate. Remains to be seen which factor weights the most for the final outcome.
UPDATE: Nantes welcome back forwards Bangoura and Aristigueta. Bordeaux will still miss striker Diabate, midfielder N’Guemo and and winger Faubert.
