Although they lost 2-0 Nantes were not that bad in the midweek Cup game away at PSG. They even created some decent opportunities but were not efficient enough to find the net.
Nantes are yet to win in Ligue1 this year but they have improved considerably since the first rounds of 2015. The defensive phase received a major boost when central defender Djilobodji returned from the African Cup of Nations.
Nantes scored only 1 goal so far in Ligue1 in 2015 but there is also a visible amelioration of the attacking phase. Coach Der Zakarian is continuously making changes upfront and this prevents players from picking up form but in the same time it assures high levels of determination.
Bastia received some help from the referee last week against Metz when they won 2-0 and scored both goals only after opponents got a red card.
They are getting positive results but are by no means worthy of praise. They are extremely organized but from all other points of views they are inferior to most opponents. Away from home Bastia usually agglomerates the own half and barely adventures upfront. It is difficult to find any open spaces when playing against Bastia but they always crack under constant pressure.
Bastia should welcome back forward Tallo from the African Cup of Nations.
Nantes will struggle to open up the opponents especially given their offensive inefficiency but the game will be one sided with hosts in charge and full of determination. Sooner or later Nantes will be able to find the net regardless Bastia’s good organization. Nantes -0.5 at 1.94
UPDATE: Hosts will have to do without fullback Veigneau and winger Audel. Bastia’s forward Tallo only returned from the African Cup of Nations and is not in the squad
