Nancy Lyon Preview

nancy lyon preview

Nancy are confident in their forces and haven’t been very active on the transfer market. The only important addition is striker Mandanne, who was Guingamp’s top-scorer two seasons ago. Mandanne has huge potential and can be a great asset for many Ligue1 sides. Winger Koura also arrived from Nimes (interesting player who scored 9 goals last season), but he is yet to prove himself at Ligue1 level.

Nancy use a 4-1-2-2-1 system, very compact in the defensive phase and really difficult to penetrate. Last season they had the best defense in Ligue 2, and even if things are very different in Ligue 1, many clubs will surely have problems in creating spaces when playing against Nancy.

Experienced striker Dale is their most dangerous player, and man marking could be the sole solution to neutralize him.

Even if Lyon lost 4 defenders (Umtiti, Bedimo, Kone, Rose), they have increased the defensive strength by transferring-in N’Koulou from Marseille. Now they have Yanga-Mbiwa and NKoulou in central defense, two of the best defenders in Ligue1.

As we could see in the Super Cup against PSG (PSG won 4-1), this season Lyon will once again embrace an offensive strategy, regardless the opponent. Fullbacks advance with every occasion they have, central midfielders spread all over the place, and central defenders are all alone to deal with the incoming danger.

No matter how solid Yanga-Mbiwa and Nkoulou may be, they are yet to build playing relations, and at this point is simply suicidal to leave them alone.

Key forward Lacazette is highly doubtful and most probably will sit out.

There is absolutely no reason why Nancy shouldn’t be able to take advantage of Lyon’s open playing style and the lack of chemistry in the defensive line. Lacazette’s absence will also make it difficult for Lyon to find the net against a compact side, no matter how hard they push the game forward. NANCY +0.25 at 2.04

UPDATE: Hosts will miss captain Hadji and defender Chretien. Good news for Lyon as forward Lacazette recovered from injury and is available.
