Montpellier Troyes Preview

montpellier troyes preview

Really impressive performance by Montpellier last week away at Nantes. They dominated most of the game and continuously cornered opponents (Montpellier won 2-0).

Fullbacks Remy and Rousillon were extremely active, and most of Montpellier’s actions were carried down the flanks. Midfielder Boudebouz was the perfect link between fullbacks and forwards, and opponents were surprised by the fast paced rythm.

Montpellier can still relegate after rules were changed and the 18th place in Ligue1 will play a relegation playoff against 3rd place from Ligue2. Motivation is certainly there, especially since they play on home ground against an already relegated opponent.

Hosts will welcome back creative midfielder Sanson after injury.

Last round Troyes finally managed to win a game in-front of own fans, and now they can relegate in peace (won 2-1 against Reims).

Troyes had a disastrous season when it comes to results, but it has to be said that the actual performances in the field weren’t so bad. Sure, they struggled to push the game forward and convert their chances, but most Ligue1 sides are in the same situation. Defensively they almost always cracked under pressure, but once again most French sides aren’t able to hold ground when they are cornered.

There are 4 rounds to be played, but Troyes may show some determination only in home games. Especially this round they will be very calm and pleased with themselves, after winning 3 points last week on home ground.

With Montpellier in good confidence this should be a one sided encounter, especially since hosts are also more motivated MONTPELLIER -1.75 at 2.00

UPDATE: Hosts will welcome back winger Berigaud after injury. Troyes will have to do without important midfielder Nivet.
