Montpellier went from one extreme to the other last round against Lorient (finished 4-4).
Keeper Jourdren got an early red card (will miss this round), but in-spite playing in 10, Montpellier had a 3 goals lead until 87th minute. From an offensive point of view they were simply outstanding, with play-maker Cabella in top form, same as striker Niang.
Those two were once again Montpellier’s key players and even if the season is finished for their team, both Cabella and Niang enjoy every single moment on the field and can open up almost every defense in Ligue1, especially when they are in form.
But from a defensive point of view Montpellier were a disaster. Defenders were slow, unorganized and always behind opponents. The support from central midfielders also left a lot to be desired.
Winger Mounier got injured last round but his replacement Deza made a good game, scored and delivered an assist.
Toulouse couldn’t score in the last two rounds but that was mainly because opponents imposed a rigid playing style due to extra motivation (both Sochaux and Lyon made extra efforts in achieving their goals). Against Montpellier things should go back to normal and Toulouse should start scoring again, especially since they will welcome back central midfielder Chantome after suspension, who will drastically increase the offensive potential.
Toulouse will again have to do without injured keeper Ahamada.
No motivation for a physical and rough game, both first choice keepers out, fragile defenses, talented and capable offensive players, all the ingredients needed for an entertaining encounter with lots of goals. Over 2.75 at goals at 2.00 with medium to high stakes.
UPDATE: Central midfielder Didot is out for Toulouse.
