Montpellier – St Etienne Preview

montpellier st etienne preview

MONTPELLIER

Montpellier failed to score so far in Ligue1 and the future doesn’t look bright at all. Winger Mounier used to be a key player for Montpellier but now he transferred-out at Bologna.

Boudebouz who arrived this summer should become an important element but until now there are no signs of that happening. In-fact, his performances so far are very annoying as he easily loses possession because of unnecessary dribbling moves. Coach Courbis doesn’t have patience with him and Boudebouz is almost always substituted with about half an hour to go.

From an offensive point of view Montpellier are in for a difficult season.

Defensively things look a bit better with midfielders Martin and Marveaux providing constant support for defenders.

Hosts will have to do without injured keeper Jourdren.

ST ETIENNE

St Etienne won last round only thanks to referee Gautier who gave two red cards to opponents Bastia (finished 2-1). It was a really poor game for St Etienne, and although they won the performance was even more disappointing than previous games played this season. Even their own fans realized this and started booing regardless St Etienne were in the lead.

Besides wingers Hamouma and Bahebeck there is nothing special about St Etienne this season and pretty soon they will sit quietly and anonymously somewhere in the middle of the table without any ambitions whatsoever.

Keeper Rufier is one of St Etienne’s most active players each round and only thanks to him (and the referees…) St Etienne have 7 points so far…

BETTING

If Mounier wouldn’t have left and Montpellier would have had a decent striker there would have been great value on home win, but not in these conditions. Dull game ahead between two unproductive teams.
