About two rounds ago Montpellier’s coach Courbis decided to start with Camara alongside Berigaud in the attacking department.
Ever since that decision Montpellier look revived and Camara seems to be more confident than ever. Last round he was once again Montpellier’s most active player. Because of Camara’s good form, winger Mounier also performs better nowadays, and he even started scoring goals and delivering assists.
The pressure on the defense is also reduced since Montpellier are now able to hold prolonged possession. This is proof of how one player can influence an entire team.
Keeper Pionnier will once again start in goal since Jourdren is still injured.
Last round it was only the second time this season when St Etienne managed to score three times in a game (won 3-0 against Lyon). Only by looking at the final result one would get the impression that St Etienne were in control and constantly pushed the game forward, but things were exactly the other way around. Lyon heavily dominated and cornered St Etienne many times. But bad luck and keeper’s Ruffier amazing reflexes prevented Lyon from scoring.
Still, the 3-0 victory is proof of St Etienne’s skilled midfield that can make the difference without holding much possession.
St Etienne was not that solid in defense and this round the defensive potential will be heavily diminished since defender Sall is out suspended and central midfielder Clement suffered an injury and will sit out.
This round will be harder for St Etienne since Montpellier won’t have the same approach as Lyon and won’t adventure upfront. It will be a game of waiting most of all and remains to be seen who will be the ones making the first mistake.
UPDATE: Guests’ winger Hamouma suffered an injury and will sit out.
