Lately Montpellier are leaking goals from all possible positions. The defense with Hilton – El Kaoutari in the center and Tiene – Congre on the sides is the most vulnerable part of the team.
Fullback Jebbour is a new addition to the team (ex Nancy) and he could add some speed, but until he will become a regular Montpellier are stuck with Congre and Tiene.
If that’s not enough, upfront players are just incapable of holding the ball and applying pressure. They only rely on Cabella’s creativity, but that’s not enough for posing danger to opponents.
Winger Mounier is suspended for this game, furthermore reducing the offensive potential.
As a finisher they have either Montano who was injured for about 2 seasons in a row and is of course rusty, or South American Herrera who never really adapted in Ligue1.
At the moment using the word average to describe Montpellier would be a compliment, there’s nothing in their side anymore to remind us of the team that won Ligue1 two seasons ago…they are just pale shadows, ghosts…
As expected Reims failed to take all the points last round at home vs Nantes. The game was more or less balanced, the only problem was that Reims were clear favorites for many and don’t know how to cope with these situations.
When away from home things are different, they are more comfortable and confident.
At moment Reims’ defense seems to be taken out of fairy tales, Weber and Tacalfred in the center are rock solid, stopping everything trying to bypass them.
Going a bit further up the field we find omnipresent Polish international Krychowiak, Reims’ brain, along with Danish Albaek, a player with great ball control and vision, able to make a difference.
In the offense talented striker Courtet failed to impress in the past 2 rounds so coach Fournier decided to give forward Charbonnier a chance. In terms of skills there’s no comparison between these two players, with Courtet being the obvious choice. Hopefully, for Reims’ own good, coach Fournier will have a change of heart and start using Courtet again.
Montpellier are in a clear disarray and the low odds for home win are a mystery to me. Bookies must be on sedatives or something… At odds of 2.08 for Reims +0.5, this should be one of the bets of the round in Ligue1.
