The 2-0 loss away at Marseille was a harsh result for Montpellier. They had a couple of good chances but the amazing form of midfielder Romao, defender N’Koulou and keeper Mandanda prevented Montpellier from scoring.
While Montpellier failed to get the equalizer, Marseille struck on counter in the final moments and the history of the game was written.
Defensively Montpellier are getting better. The only problem is with Congre who keeps on making vital errors. One of these days fullback Jebbour will return from suspension and Congre will get a cozy place on the bench.
If at the back Montpellier look decent, upfront coach Fernandez keeps on changing players. His latest invention was converting defensive midfielder Marveaux to a winger position. Didn’t really worked out so Marveaux was replaced in 2nd half.
Coach Fernandez is really stubborn. He’s got top talent wasting on the bench (Mounier) but he prefers starting with average Bakar or converting other players.
Well the good news is that Bakar got injured and out-of-form winger Camara is suspended. In these conditions Fernandez will have to use Mounier.
Opponents Lorient are punching above their weight at the moment. They won again last round (3-0 vs Nice) but the result was totally undeserved. Nice controlled the game but defensive errors proved to be decisive.
Lorient should start with 3rd keeper Chaigneau. He is credited with 3 clean sheets so far in the last 3 rounds but in reality he’s yet to prove himself in Ligue1 (or any other league for that matter…)
First game he played was against Reims 3 rounds ago when there was a storm and the ball never reached any of the keepers. In second game Lorient were 2-0 up after 10 minutes and defended in numbers after that (also a red card for opponents in 2nd half). And in the third game (last round) he only played 15 minutes as Lorient started with Audard who only returned from injury but got injured once again (typical for Lorient due to their poor physical condition).
Sooner or later we all run out on luck and I believe now it’s Chaigneau turn. Keep in mind this keeper never really proved himself, not even in Ligue2, and he’s 29 already.
Central midfielder Coutadeur also got injured last round and will miss, just like the other central midfielder, Lautoa who is suspended (although recently he played more as a central defender).
On the other hand winger Barthelme will return from suspension and central defender Kone from injury.
Lorient create mainly on the wings and most their actions finish with balls for Aboubakar in the center. But if the latter is properly marked then Lorient are annihilated. And Montpellier with central defenders Hilton and El Kaoutari can deal with Aboubakar.
Sometimes Lorient can be a hard nut to crack but with an inexperienced keeper, without Lautoa and under constant pressure I am sure they will eventually give in.
It’s about time for Montpellier to get back on winning days. The odds could certainly be higher especially given Lorient’s good run, but still at 2.00 we can double our investment.
