Last round it was the first time this season Montpellier scored twice in a game (lost 3-2 against Monaco) but don’t be fooled by appearances as their attacking phase hasn’t improved a bit. The first goal was scored following a corner and the second one was in-fact an own goal.
Besides the two goals Montpellier focused mostly on long range attempts but the problem is they do not have a skilled shooter in their ranks and keeper has no problems in collecting the balls.
In each and every round the defense in constantly under siege and there was only one game so far this season when Montpellier kept a clean sheet.
Lorient made a smart game last round against Caen and deserved to take all points (finished 2-0). Forwards Waris and Mouknadjo confirmed the good form and scored a goal each.
When the season started newly transferred Moukandjo was very shy but now it seems he finally settled and together with Waris they create a fierce attacking couple.
Lorient are also very dangerous on the wings where Jouffre and Guerreiro excel in speed and ball control. Coach Ripoll is lucky to have players like Philippoteaux or Barthelme on the bench and freshness can be assured in each round.
Lorient will welcome back central midfielder Mesloub
In all games so far Montpellier started in force but couldn’t keep up the fast paced rythm and got soft after the break. Once again Montpellier may start very determined, especially since they won only 1 point so far…, but form, tactics and resources are all on Lorient’s side and Montpellier may once again finish on their knees Lorient +0.25 at 1.97
