Montpellier – Caen Preview

Montpelleir had a shy performance last round away at Toulouse when they couldn’t really create any decent opportunities.

Europa League is a distant dream and Montpellier don’t have much motivation nowadays, but still, especially on home games, Montpellier are very determined and always find extra resources.

Their major strength is the ability to to open up opponents without the need to hold prolonged possession. Offensive players are skilled and can reach the penalty box from only 2 or 3 quick short passes.

Since Montpellier don’t need to bring many players to the attacking phase defenders receive constant support and it’s really difficult to catch them off guard.

The days in which Caen were surprising opponents on counters are long gone. Ever since striker Duhamel left Caen struggle to convert their chances which are also fewer than before. Creative midfielder Feret is very uninspired lately and can barely make a successful pass.

Caen were never solid in defense but now maybe more than ever defenders lack concentration and leave many open spaces. With midfielders Feret and Kante involved more in the attacking phase, Seube is the only one providing support for the defense. But at 35 Seube can’t keep up with opponents anymore and he can be easily outplayed.

There are no news regarding injuries so most probably both sides will use the lineups as last round.

Caen seemed very soft in the last month and were pretty lucky not to lose all games (in the last 4 rounds). Montpellier aren’t exactly in excellent form but individual talent should be enough for scoring at least once and resisting to a couple of shy offensive attempts. Montpellier -0.5 at 1.95
