In comparison to last season Montpellier will have to do without 2 exponential players, midfielder Cabella and striker Niang. Only because of them Montpellier didn’t had any relegation woes at the end of last season…
On the other hand they transferred-in Evian’s top scorer Berigaud in the attempt to compensate and still have a decent offensive phase. Berigaud is a talented player, but without Cabella creativity will lack and the balls for the lone striker won’t be so many.
Midfielder Lasne also arrived from Ajaccio, but he is more of a hard worker instead of bursting with inventivity.
They will use the same system as last season but especially the offensive phase will suffer a lot.
Although they have somewhat decent replacements, Bordeaux lost 2 important pieces for the defensive phase, central defender Henrique and central midfielder Nguemo who transferred-out.
It looks like Bordeaux will continue to concentrate on the flanks as they transferred-in winger Khazri from Bastia. Khazri has impressive skills and should rapidly adapt at Bordeaux and become a regular.
Upfront forward Sala arrived from Niort after a promising season in Ligue2 (scored 18 goals). He won’t be a starter but could be an option whenever regulars suffer injuries or are suspended.
There’s a good chance that coach Sagnol will change system and we can see Bordeaux playing in 4-3-3 instead the 4-2-3-1. If that will happen Bordeaux could be a good candidate for betting on overs, especially with the defensive departures (Henrique and Nguemo). Former French international Alou Diarra is without a club at the moment and has been training with Bordeaux in the last weeks but is unclear yet if he will sign a contract. He can play both as a central defender and a defensive midfielder and could add a bit of stability in defense.
Both sides suffered important losses through the summer and it remains to be seen how they will adapt and manage to cover the spaces left open.
UPDATE: Montpellier are without Bakar, Deza, Marveaux and Ait Fana. Maybe only Marveaux would have been in the lineup. Bordeaux can’t count on midfielders Jussie and Biyoko Poko and forward Saivet.
