Monaco Rennes Preview

monaco rennes preview

There is no stopping Monaco at the moment. They are sitting on 6 consecutive victories (Champions League game included), and all players seem to be in top form and confidence.

The most impressive thing is their ability to switch from defensive to attacking tactics. They don’t have any problem with a defensive strategy, they can easily defend for 90 minutes and win at a comfortable margin by striking only on counters.

When it comes to opponents from the lower half, Monaco are also very convincing, as they are able to keep prolonged possession in midfield and create tunnels through ingenious passes.

Winger Lemar returned from injury recently and even scored against Tottenham in the midweek Champions League game (Monaco won 2-1). On the other hand hosts will have to do without winger Dirar who suffered an injury.

7 points in the last 3 rounds for Rennes, but they continue to look slow upfront and uninspired in midfield.

The problem with Rennes is that they easily accept opponents’ dominance, but they don’t have the necessary resources to strike on counters. They are slow builders, as midfielders don’t excel in speed and instead compensate through precision.

Things may improve in the future, as winger Ntep returned from injury last round, played for about 10 minutes and even managed to deliver an assist. Once he achieves full potential, Ntep can easily be the most important attacking player for Rennes.

Unfortunately midfielder Chantome will continue to miss through injury (another two months).

In-spite the recent good results, Rennes look too soft to be able to get something from Monaco. Hosts are in excellent form and should easily be able to continue the good run. MONACO -0.75 at 2.02
