Monaco controlled the entire game last round away at Montpellier but could only score the winner in the dying seconds (won 1-0).
Monaco’s players are at opposite ends and this explains the mediocre run so far. Play-maker Moutinho slowly picked up form and is very active nowadays and his creativity is running high. Kurzawa is by far one of the best fullbacks in Ligue1 and to be honest I see him transferring-out to a top European club pretty soon. He is an exponential player for Monaco with many actions carried down the left flank, actions that end up with long balls or incursions inside the penalty box.
But on the other hand we have Ferreira Carrasco who is more concerned about looking good for the cameras and newly arrived Silva who fails to understand teammates’ intentions. These two are simply stretching Moutinho’s nerves to the maximum and it’s a mystery how come coach Jardin still prefers them .
Forward Martial suffered an injury and will sit out.
Nice took advantage of Lille’s tiredness, ran like savages for 90 minutes and managed to get an important victory (won 1-0). They have used only one true blooded defensive midfielder (Mendy) in the attempt to boost the offensive phase. But still, creating decent scoring opportunities remains Nice’s biggest problem. Long balls inside the box remains their favorite technique as it doesn’t require many skills.
Only thanks to huge physical efforts Nice took all the points last round. But this surely will have consequences on the way they’ll perform against Monaco.
Last round Nice started with Palun as right fullback. He was very hesitant and with Kurzawa as direct opponent it will surely be a nightmare.
Guests are still without injured striker Cvitanich.
Even if Monaco don’t have all offensive players in good form, Moutinho’s increased playing appetite, Kurzawa’s vitality and Berbatov’s experience should be enough to assure the 3 points against an energy drained team. Monaco -1 at 1.90
