Monaco – Montpellier Preview

monaco montpellier preview

MONACO

Really disappointing performance by Monaco last round away at Lyon. They got a red card after only 20 minutes and ended up humiliated (lost 6-1). It has to be mentioned that Monaco were already 2-0 down before the red card.

Monaco are conceding way too may goals considering their objective, and now they risk losing the 3rd place that will take them to Champions League playoffs. If Nice win (play away at Guingamp), Monaco also need to win in order to qualify, otherwise they will finish on the 4th place.

There is no hope for Monaco to improve defensively in the last round of the tournament. Most likely they will once again embrace the same strategy, use many players in the attacking phase, and rely on individual skills to outscore opponents.

Hosts should welcome back midfielder Moutinho after injury, but they will miss forward Traore who is suspended.

MONTPELLIER

Montpellier aren’t fighting for anything, but they are sitting on 4 consecutive victories after convincing performances, both on home ground and away from home as well.

Players finally achieved full potential and chemistry improved significantly. They use a 4-4-2 diamond system, with young defensive midfielder Skhiri an entire wall by himself, with attacking midfielder Boudebouz delivering assists with eyes closed, and with Martin and Dabo on the sides highly active both in the defensive and offensive phase.

BETTING

Guests are in excellent form and confidence and there is huge value on them, regardless Monaco’s need for points. There should be plenty of goals in this game, but the odds on Montpellier to score at least twice are simply out of this world (also taking in consideration their chances). Montpellier to score over 1.5 goals at around 5.00
