Monaco Montpellier Preview

monaco montpellier preview

MONACO

Monaco had a difficult midweek game in Champions League, and although they constantly pushed the game forward and created the best of chances, they scored the equalizer only in the final minutes (1-1 away at CSKA).

They are also having some problems in Ligue 1, as they have two defeats in the last 4 rounds. Although they have solid players in defense, they are conceding way too many goals. Defenders don’t react fast enough and often remain one step behind opponents.

Midfielders are also to be blamed for the goals conceded, as it seems they don’t pay enough attention to the defensive phase.

Hosts may miss midfielder Moutinho who suffered an injury against CSKA in Champions League.

Montpellier

From an offensive point of view Montpellier are simply on fire. Forward Ninga is maybe in the best form of his career (so far) and scored 5 goals in the last 2 rounds. We must be fair and admit that he was also a bit lucky lately, but in the end nobody can take away his achievement.

Unfortunately in defense there is an entire different story. Players lack confidence, they are slow and always late at the ball. Defender Congre will return from suspension this round, but even with him in the lineup, Montpellier are still conceding from all positions.

Guests will have to do without forward Mounie who is suspended, but he is by no means an important (or even a regular) player.

BETTING

Guests have good chances of finding the net, especially given Monaco’s sluggish defense and Ninga’s excellent form. Fast paced game to be expected, with plenty of chances and at least 3 goals. OVER 2.5 GOALS at 1.96 . UPDATE: Montpellier’s topscorer Ninga suffered a terrible injury in training and will miss for a couple of months. Monaco -0.75 at 2.00 is the best choice

Monaco welcome back forward Falcao, while Montpellier will also miss defenders Congre, Remy and Vanden Borre
