Monaco Lorient Preview

It’s been a hesitant start of the season for Monaco with many transfers in and out, and only now they are slowly building up chemistry. Monaco already paid a huge price as they were eliminated from Champions League and aren’t doing that well in Europa League either, after struggling away at Anderlecht and finding the equalizer only in the final minutes (finished 1-1).

Jardim is one of the luckiest coaches in Ligue1 as Monaco are simply filled with talent both on the field and on the bench. At Monaco attacking players are constantly rotated but no matter who enters the field we can be sure that Monaco excels in speed and ball control.

Midfielder Toulalan is still doubtful but in comparison to last Ligue1 game Monaco welcome back Moutinho but will miss Traore who is suspended.

Lorient manged to get their first Ligue1 win last round against Angers (Lorient won 3-1). There was a mixture of favorable circumstances that made that result possible. First of all opponents Angers missed two key players and those absences severely diminished the offensive potential. Secondly Lorient welcomed back two important players, winger Jouffre and forward Waris that completely changed the way Lorient looks. Both Waris and Jouffre scored a goal and delivered an assist each.

But that result only shows how fragile Lorient are and doesn’t transform them into a fierce opponent as Lorient depend almost entirely on two players who can not be substituted.

It will be an entire different story for Lorient when up against Monaco who are extremely powerful and experienced. Waris will be constantly man marked while Jouffre won’t have so many spaces available on the wings. But most importantly Monaco’s solid midfield will be able to keep possession in Lorient’s half and constantly push the game forward. Monaco -0.75 at 1.95

UPDATE: Monaco welcome back midfielder Lopes but Toulalan is still injured. Midfielder Barthelme is back for Lorient but forward Lavigne and midfielder Mesloub will sit out.
