Monaco ruined many bets in the midweek when they defeated Leverkusen 1-0 in Champions League.
The performance in itself wasn’t anything spectacular, on the contrary Leverkusen may have deserved more at times. But Monaco were very determined and made big efforts, especially in the defensive phase. But the best news of all is that midfielder Moutinho scored his first goal this season. Hopefully this will finally help him pick up some form and confidence, as until now he was invisible for most of the games.
With Falcao finally gone Berbatov became the undisputed regular upfront. This boosted his confidence and improved the chemistry in the offensive department.
Guingamp appeared a bit upgraded last week against Bordeaux (Guingamp won 2-1). This change was mostly due to the good performances of newly arrived offensive players Pied and Marveux. Both of them were mostly substitutes at previous clubs so the playing appetite is at high levels. They are eager to prove themselves and make the most of their time on the pitch.
In defense there are still many spaces opponents can exploit, especially if the actions are carried down the flanks where fullbacks Baca and Leveque have only mediocre defensive skills.
Monaco will try to build on the midweek success and get 2 consecutive wins for the first time this season. Most likely they won’t be so thorough when defending as they were against Leverkusen. With Pied and Marveaux in good form there is no doubt Guingamp will have their share of chances, and with turtles Raggi and Carvalho in Monaco’s central defense guests can surely find the net at least once. If all goes well for Monaco, Moutinho’s increased confidence should also have some consequences on the scoring board. Over 2.50 goals at 2.09
UPDATE: Guingamp’s defender Leveque was given some rest time and is out of squad.
