Metz were heavily outplayed last round away at Caen but they still got away with 1 point (finished 0-0).
Upfront they relied exclusively on the actions carried by experienced midfielders Lejeune and Malouda. Both of them are kind of slow and Metz’s actions are predictable and it doesn’t take huge efforts to stop them.
In defense Metz closed ranks admirably and gave huge headaches to an inventive and resourceful opponent. Away from home Metz are more defensive minded and at times they even protect the penalty box on 3 lines…
This season is kind of over for Metz and it seems everyone made peace with the thought they will play in Ligue2 next year. Even coach Cartier should be relaxed as his place at the team is guaranteed for another season (according to president’s statements).
Hosts may miss attacking midfielder Krivets who is doubtful at the moment.
Toulouse’s new coach Arribage had a surprise for everyone and started with 20 years Bodiger in central midfield. Bodiger was extremely active and participated in both the defensive and offensive phase. He even delivered the assist that helped Toulouse score the first goal.
Even if at times Toulouse accepted opponents’ dominance and came under huge pressure the overall performance was pretty good and there was an obvious improvement of the defensive phase.
It is unclear yet if young Bodiger will continue in the lineup as experienced players like Aguilar, Regattin or Siriex are waiting for their chance on the bench.
Metz’s results so far are living proof they aren’t concentrating all forces in defense in home games. So far in 2015 Metz won 3 points while playing away (3 draws) and only 1 point in home games. These are disastrous results and unfortunately for Metz there is no improvement in sight. Toulouse DNB at 1.95
