Metz – Reims Preview

Metz succeeded in building on the victory against Bastia two rounds ago and got their first away win of the season at Guingamp (1-0).

For a newcomer in Ligue1 Metz look pretty courageous and don’t have much respect for opponents. At times they even use two pure strikers and when that happens all hell breaks loose. They apply pressure and create many decent scoring opportunities but in the same time they leave huge open spaces at the back.

There are good chances that Metz will once again use two strikers in the lineup, in order take advantage of the good moment and corner a demoralized opponent.

Metz will miss suspended winger N’Gbakoto.

Reims were humiliated on home ground by Marseille last round (5-0). All fingers should point to coach Vasseur as he is the main responsible for such a disaster. He used a diamond formation with four central midfielders and no real winger in the lineup. This was simply suicidal against Marseille who have players like Ayew and Thauvin on the wings.

Reims’ fullbacks quickly found themselves under siege and there was no way to deal with the incoming danger. Even central defenders got overwhelmed and made many mistakes. Conte for example, who had a couple of great performances until this game, looked like an amateur player.

Coach Vasseur realized his mistakes at half time and changed the system, but it was too late as players already gave up believing and fighting. Even the goalkeeper was substituted but the new one conceded even more goals (3).

This round Reims should use their normal system and offensive players will most likely push harder than usual in order to put the past behind. But the 5 goals conceded affected first of all the defensive players who definitely have a low morale now.

A confident Metz trying to get a third straight victory against Reims determined to wash away the shame. Interesting encounter with many chances on both ends. Over 2.25 goals at 2.11
