Two games against PSG and Marseille put an end to Metz’s good moment. Two more difficult encounters against Monaco and Lille will follow and the only thing Metz can do is to go down in style…
Metz increased rythm too late in the season and no difference can be made anymore. The two wins over Toulouse and Lens a couple of rounds ago and the 8 points won in 4 consecutive rounds will remain only statistics and won’t be of any real help.
It will be normal for players to be a bit disappointed, especially after they understood their best run this season will be of no use at all.
Lorient split points with Bordeaux last week after a dull game with only a few real scoring opportunities (finished 0-0). Lorient are in dangerous situation (only 2 points above the relegation zone) and most probably they are concentrating primarily on not making any mistakes.
Only 2 or 3 players are involved in the offensive phase and everyone else concentrates on preventing opponents from getting close to the penalty box. The good news is that winger Guerreiro returned from injury last week and even played for about 10 minutes. He should be a starter this round and his skills (speed, ball control, vision) can definitely help Lorient to open up Metz without the need to bring many players upfront.
This is the perfect opportunity for Lorient to distance themselves from the relegation zone, seeing that direct opponents Evian and Reims play each-other and Toulouse have a difficult game against in-form Lille. For Metz two games against reputed opponents will follow so there are plenty of opportunities to make amends with fans for the lost season. Lorient DNB at 2.04
