Marseille – Sochaux Preview

Recently Marseille transformed from an underish team to an overish one. The explanation for that is the poor form of players making the defensive phase.

As much as I dislike Andre Ayew’s playing style, I got to admit his valuable contribution in last games. He makes a lot of efforts and unlike other offensive players he is also helpful to the defense. Sadly for Marseille he will be suspended for this round.

Central defenders really need as much help as they can get, especially since fullback Fanni is still out injured and the other fullback Morel seems to be the main actor in the “Comedy of errors”.

Fullbacks aren’t the only reason for Marseille conceding each round. Defensive midfielders are also out of form and create little resistance when opponents build actions. In fact the poor form of Romao and Cheyrou is the main reason for so many goals.

With Andre Ayew out, Marseille offensive players will concentrate only on attacking and won’t participate in the defensive phase. The attacking midfield Thauvin – Valbuena – Payet has enough power to damage Sochaux’s leaky defense.

Guests may once again be without their main defensive player Carlao. The goalless draw last round against St Etienne was really an unexpected result. Game started in force with many opportunities on both ends, but an early red card ruined the rhythm and changed everything. What should have been a goal feast finished in a bitter score (0-0).

Sochaux improved with the arrival of coach Renard. They are more confident now, more offensive. The right flank with Corchia and Contout is working better than ever and will surely give Marseille’s fullback Morel big headaches. That could actually prove to be the decisive battle in this game.

Midfielder Guerbert suffered a horror injury and he will be out for a long time. Replacing him will be experienced Roudet, whom I find to be much more dangerous.

Sochaux will also miss suspended fullback Boumal who will be replaced by offensive minded Faussurier.

With Morel on the field Sochaux will be able to score, no doubt about that. But that doesn’t mean they will be getting something, as Marseille with the offensive trio Thauvin – Valbuena – Payet can surely outscore Sochaux.

At 2.00 the odds on over 2.5 are ridiculously high. Take it before it drops.
