Marseille – Reims Preview

I am so disappointed by both teams that I don’t even know where to start. The main problem in both sides is the lack of offensive power.

Concerning Marseille, they have what it takes to create dangerous chances, and only the inconsistency of Valbuena and Payet (and Ayew’s mediocrity…) prevent that from happening.

Against Napoli, Marseille could only score through a long range shot. Otherwise, there were many parts in Napoli’s half where the grass was left untouched.
At the back they held it as tight as possible, only fullback Fanni seemed a bit overwhelmed, but they were up against top class opponents.

Defender Mendes will most likely miss once again, but replacement Diawara is solid enough to resist Reims’ crippled attacks.

The main person to be blamed for Reims’ poor offense is none other than coach Fournier. He’s got an inexplicable urge to use forward Charbonnier in every single game. Considering that Charbonnier is a disaster, there is no possible reason for what Fournier is doing, other than having a piece of his market share…

The usual forward Courtet is either left in the bench or used as a winger. Of course he lost form and even his attributes seem to have diminished because of that.

Recently Reims have been very active on the wings. But that potential diminished by half when winger Fortes got suspended (still suspended now), and again by half when winger De Preville got injured last round. Reims will also miss suspended central midfielder Devaux, but it won’t be a problem as they can start with Oniangue, Albaek and Khrychowiak in midfield.

Reims won’t be able to pose any threats upfront, not without Fortes and De Preville and with nerve wrecking Charbonnier upfront. But instead they will be concentrating all their efforts on defending and they are quite good at it.

Marseille with Ayew – Valbuena – Payet in a standstill will have major difficulties in opening up Reims and scoring.

1.70 for under 2.5 goals is more than decent and bookies may regret giving Marseille such big credit.

On a side note, I took 1-0 correct score on my sci-fi correct score Ligue1 accumulator.
