Marseille – Lyon Preview

Marseille Lyon Preview

MARSEILLE

Marseille are in excellent form after destroying Bastia last week in Ligue1 (won 4-1) and easily winning away at Groningen in Europa League even without a couple of regulars (finished 3-0).

Last week winger Alessandrini scored twice and forward Batshuay found the net and delivered an assist. Only newly arrived winger Cabella was a bit shy and it seems it may take a while for him to adapt. In the past he used to play more in the center but at Marseille he is isolated on the wing and doesn’t feel too comfortable.

Fullbacks Manquillo and Mendy are very active and also get involved in the attacking phase. Mendy even scored an amazing goal last week and most probably we will see more attempts coming from him. Dja Djedje returned from injury and may take Manquillo’s place in the lineup.

LYON

Boring game and an unconvincing display from Lyon last round against Lille (finished 0-0). By far Lyon held more possession but it was in vain as they couldn’t find any solutions to get inside the penalty box.

With forward Fekir injured and Lacazette out of form Lyon struggles in the attacking phase and are forced to rely mostly on fullbacks who often leave their positions and engage in actions with play-maker Valbuena.

The midweek Champions League game away at Gent was disappointing after Lyon played an entire half in numerical superiority but couldn’t get more than a draw and were even cornered a couple of times. Lacazette missed a penalty in the final minutes proving once again the poor form and lack of confidence.

BETTING

On home ground Marseille are easily able achieve full potential and it shouldn’t be any different against Lyon who are historic rivals. This is a difficult period for Lyon and unfortunately it seems they simply can not fix the attacking problems. Marseille -0.5 at 2.08
