MARSEILLE

With a bit more luck Marseille could have won all points last round away at Lyon (finished 1-1). The game was pretty balanced, but Lyon had most of the possession and imposed the rythm.

Marseille need to be a bit more aggressive in the offensive phase, keep the ball longer in opponents’ half and prevent them for pushing the game forward. The solution to all these problems is winger Alessandrini, who should return from injury this week.

Defensive players once in a while get caught on wrong foot, but it’s not a rule and the opponents need to be quite skilled in order to exploit.

LILLE

Shameful result for Lille last week on home ground against Troyes (lost 3-1). The first half looked promising, especially after Lille took the lead quite early. Midfielder Boufal was once again their best player, extremely active, but often isolated and not understood by teammates.

With 15 minutes to go Lille simply collapsed and conceded three times when nobody expected it. It was a bitter disappointment for everyone at Lille and surely the final result severely affected the confidence level.

The solid defense was Lille’s major strength, but so far in 2016 they have conceded at least once in all Ligue1 games. Fullbacks Sidibe and Corchia often advance trying to engage in actions with playmaker Boufal. Defensive midfielder Mavuba is not getting any younger and sometimes opponents are simply invited to attack.

In the midweek Cup game Lille tried to wash away the shame, and succeeded after winning 5-1 over Bordeaux. Playmaker Boufal, midfielder Mavuba and forward Tallo should return to the lineup this round, after starting only on the bench in the Cup.

BETTING

Even if Alessandrini won’t play at full potential, Marseille already have enough firepower to take advantage of every single space in Lille’s defense. If Lille will perform like they did against Troyes, they will need to play in 12 in order to take at least a point. Masreille -0.75 at 2.14
