Marseille fully dominated last round away at Monaco but in the end they left empty handed (lost 1-0).
Fullback DjaDjedje was the most active player on the field and took part in many offensive actions. Unfortunately Marseille couldn’t find the net regardless creating numerous dangerous opportunities.
In the attacking phase they easily switch the play from one side to another without losing speed or creativity. Central midfielders Imbula and Lemina are very energetic and provide continuous help both for the offense and the defense.
This week Marseille could concentrate fully on this encounter since they weren’t involved in the midweek Cup.
Lille on the other hand played an exhausting game that was decided only at penalties (they defeated Bordeaux). The game was very balanced and both sides made huge efforts for the entire 120 minutes. Lille qualified but they barely had any energy to celebrate afterwards…
Besides veteran midfielder Mavuba coach Girard used all regulars so tiredness could be visible against Marseille.
After half the season gone guests sit somewhere in the middle of the table having one of the poorest away records in the league (scored only 3 goals away from home). Lille are fortunate for having a solid defense as it’s the sole thing preventing them from being trashed round after round.
The attacking strength is one of the most disappointing in Ligue1 not only because of statistics (Lille are placed last when it comes to goals scored) but also because the reality in the field.
At a first sight this encounter seems like a difficult one, but because of their offensive impotency Lille will continuously find themselves under huge pressure. Marseille -1, 2.26
