Marseille Guingamp Preview

marseille guingamp preview

Although Ligue1 is yet to resume we can definitely say Marseille are going through a bad moment. Key defensive players Mandanda and Nkoulou will have their contracts expire in June and it is rumored they already received a couple of interesting offers from top European clubs.

In case they leave, it will be a huge blow for Marseille who will lose two of their most important players without cashing in a penny.

In the Cup game against Caen a week ago Marseille won at penalties, but lost 3 defenders. Rekik got a red card and Mendy and De Ceglie suffered injuries. Another defender Rolando, who only arrived this season, is continuously criticized by everybody at the club (management, fans) and expressed his desire to transfer out.

Attacking midfielder Cabella is injured, same as key player Alessandrini.

Marseille will suffer both defensively and offensively and the low morale should have a big impact on their play.

Guingamp didn’t have any problems against amateurs Chantilly in the French Cup (won 4-0). Forwards Briand and Privat scored a goal each and this should boost their confidence ahead of the first Ligue1 game in 2016.

Guingamp played effective football in the first part of the season but they have a small squad, tiredness installed, they took the foot off the gas and now they are just 2 points above the relegation zone.

Hopefully they are now fresh after the winter break and all players will be able to make the most of their skills, starting of course with experienced forward Briand.

Marseille have been too inconsistent this season and their current position is of no surprise. The internal problems created a tense atmosphere that will surely affect their performance. Guingamp have a great chance of taking at least a point. Guingamp +0.75 at 2.11
