The situation is pretty much clear in group F of Europa League, with Frankfurt and Maccabi qualifying for the European spring.
Besides advancing in Europa League the Israeli team is also doing great in the internal competition. Not only the results are impressive but their playing style also.
I remember the first game in France when Maccabi had the majority of possession, cornered Bordeaux and won 2-1 in the end. Keep in mind that game was played in normal circumstances, when Bordeaux used many regulars.
But now, seeing they are already out of the competition, coach Gillot decided to rest everyone.
From all players traveling to Tel Aviv only fullback Poundje played last round against Lille (and got a red card). Not even keeper Carrasso is in the squad.
Heavy rotation, out of form players and no expectations whatsoever. Maccabi may also rotate a bit seeing they are already qualified and on Monday there’s the derby vs Hapoel Tel Aviv. But Hapoel are in poor form and there’s enough time until Monday. Also Europa League generally means a lot for Israeli teams who treat it seriously. If a rotation occurs, it surely won’t be so drastic as in Bordeaux’s case.
2.07 for Maccabi -1 is huge, just like the drop in odds will be until game day…
