Lyon ended 2015 in poor form with only 1 point from 6 Ligue1 games. Lyon reduced rythm exactly when Valbuena started having problems (when the sex tape scandal began) and it’s unclear yet if his morale recovered.
Valbuena hasn’t played in the Cup game against minnows Limoges (Lyon won 7-0) and according to latest reports he seems to be injured and may miss against Troyes as well. Playmaker Grenier returned from injury in December, hasn’t played much this season, but he is a highly skilled player and could definitely take over Valbuena’s tasks.
There are rumors of forward Beavue wishing to transfer out, but at the moment Lyon haven’t made any official moves on the transfer market.
So far this has been a nightmarish season for Troyes who are yet to win in Ligue1. Troyes don’t have many resources available (skills or depth) and the only way to be competitive is to make extra efforts.
In the first game of 2016 (French Cup) they have struggled against 3rd division side Dunkerque and qualified further thanks to a goal scored in extra time (won 4-3). Troyes used a mixed squad but this doesn’t justify being cornered by a 3rd division team.
Midfielder Darbion got a red card and will be suspended for the game against Lyon.
No matter how much Lyon may depend on out-of-form Valbuena, they are still a couple of classes above relegation material Troyes. We should expect constant pressure from Lyon and at least a couple of goals. Lyon -1.5 at 2.12
UPDATE: Lyon will miss Valbuena, Rafael, Cornet, Fekir and Fofana. Same bet
