Lyon St Etienne Preview - Ligue 1 Betting Tips

Lyon – St Etienne Preview

lyon st etienne preview

Lyon have been constantly improving as of late but not yet reached a Champions League level. They have major difficulties when competing in Champions League and after only four rounds their European journey already seems compromised (lost 2-0 to Zenit in the midweek game)

In Ligue1 things are different as Lyon dominate most opponents and don’t seem to have any problems in finding the net.

Key forward Fekir is still injured but finally Lacazette and Beauvue picked up some confidence and are constantly threatening opponents.

Play-maker Valbuena is in excellent form and feels very comfortable at Lyon. He is by now the most important player in the squad and the perfect link between wingers.

Coach Galtier changed the system for the Europa League game against Dnipro and started with two forwards. Usually St Etienne play in a 4-2-3-1 system with either Roux or Beric upfront, but against Dnipro both of them started the game.
The bet paid off and St Etienne were much incisive than usual and managed to score 3 times (St Etienne won 3-0).

Although they are 4th in the table in Ligue1 St Etienne have been performing way below expectations. Most of their goal scoring attempts are long range shots, as St Etienne don’t have the patience (or skills) to advance further and reach the penalty box. If coach Galtier will switch back to the classic 4-2-3-1 system the offensive strength will be diminished again.

Defending the flanks is by far St Etienne’s major weakness and although they have two sets of fullbacks all of them seem slow and undecided when it comes to intervening.

Leaving aside the performances in Europe, Lyon are way more convincing in Ligue1 and the ones constantly improving. This is an important game, both for the teams and for the fans, and there is absolutely no reason for any of the sides to take the foot off the gas. Lyon -0.5 at 1.98
