Lyon PSG Preview

lyon psg preview

We had another proof last round that Lyon don’t change strategy no matter the opponent or the form. Last week away at Lille they adopted the same aggressive tactics, and opened up again without hesitation (Lille won 1-0).

This is suicidal from Lyon, especially since playmaker Valbuena is not that inspired anymore and forward Lacazette has alternating performances.

Besides the three points, Lyon also lost fullback Jallet and midfielder Grenier who will be suspended this round.

Against PSG coach Genesio may try to change strategy and focus more on the defensive aspect, but the problem is Lyon aren’t accustomed with that approach and will have a hard time adapting.

PSG had an easy game last round against Reims, and won 4-1 without much effort. They already won the title in France, but since the Champions League game against Chelsea is two weeks away, they have nothing to do except relax and enjoy the rest of Ligue1 without any kind of pressure.

PSG haven’t been very convincing in away games, in-fact they even struggled against teams who refused to open up and attack. But it will be an entire different story against Lyon who never barricade themselves in own half.

Winger Di Maria and midfielder Verratti suffered injuries and are doubtful.

Lyon have everything to play for, but their objectives aren’t achievable as long as they can’t adapt to opponents’ playing styles. If they could succeed using the same approach over and over again, there wouldn’t be any coaches or opposition scouts in football. PSG -0.75 at at 2.08

UPDATE: Bad news for Lyon as they will miss a couple of important players. Creative midfielders Valbuena and Tolisso are injured, while Jallet, Umititi and Grenier are suspended. PSG will be without Verratti and Di Maria, but welcome back Pastore
