Lyon – PSG Preview

Lyon fully deserve to top the table in this moment but looking at the circumstances surrounding this encounter they are very unlucky.

First of all they will once again miss top-scorer Lacazette. As we could see last round against Monaco (finished 0-0) without Lacazette the offensive potential diminishes considerably.

In Lacazette’s absence everybody expects the world from Fekir but isn’t able to achieve full potential without Lacazette’s key passes.

Secondly Lyon will most probably miss important central defender Bisevac who suffered an injury last round. This will undoubtedly reduce the defensive strength.

A couple of rounds ago midfielder Gourcuff returned from injury and now he’s got a guaranteed place in the lineup. But the problem is that offensive midfielder Ghezzal was in top form and was forced on the bench in order to make room for Gourcuff. At least coach Fournier should have played with both Ghezzal and Gourcuff in the lineup and the overall strength would have increased, instead of waiting for Gourcuff to pick up form and giving him credit only because of his name and experience.

Even if PSG don’t exactly have convincing performances and are even booed by own fans (happened last round against Rennes when PSG won 1-0) they are very pragmatic and efficient upfront. It seems they got a bit lazy in 2015 but they are still getting positive results.

They are not interested in keeping up a fast paced rythm for the entire 90 minutes and maybe this is why they get booed by the audience. But when they increase the rythm PSG play like world champions and opponents can’t even follow the ball with their eyes let alone intercept it.

Lyon are unlucky to miss Lacazette and to have in-form midfielder Ghezzal on the bench (he may play in 2nd half but won’t have the same confidence). Most likely PSG’s playing style won’t impress (once again) but they will do just enough to take the 3 points. PSG -0.5 at 2.20
