Lyon Monaco Preview

lyon monaco preview

Lyon could have scored more last round against Gazelec Ajaccio, but reduced efforts in second half, and in the end were happy with a minimum advantage (finished 2-1).

Lyon is the most in-form Ligue1 side at the moment, after winning 23 points in the last 9 rounds (7 wins and 2 draws). They fully deserve to qualify directly in Champions League, especially since they proved to be dangerous even without some key players.

Midfielder Valbuena missed a few rounds, but Lyon didn’t have any problems in pushing the game forward. Last week Valbuena once again suffered an injury and may miss this game. Creative midfielder Tolisso also got injured and is doubtful as well. They are important players, but Lyon have plenty of creativity and talent even without them.

Monaco won last round, but they once again made a poor game from a defensive point of view (won 3-2 against Guingamp). Lately they have been conceding way too many goals, especially for a team having Champions League as an objective.

They are able to compensate by outscoring opponents, not because their play has an impressive flow, but because individual talent usually make the difference.

Monaco should welcome back midfielder Toulalan after injury.

This is a really important encounter for both sides, an encounter that most likely will decide who will be in second place at the end of the season. In normal conditions this game would have been perfect for betting on goals, but given the stake of the game, most probably both sides will have a cautious approach. Lyon definitely have a big advantage thanks to the ingenuity in the attacking phase, advantage that should tilt the balance. LYON -0.5 at 1.93
