Lyon – Metz Preview

Lyon used the best team possible in the midweek game away at Nantes but were still eliminated from the Cup (lost 3-2)

In-spite of that wrong step Lyon play maybe the best football in Ligue1 at the moment and fully deserve to sit in the 1st position.

Attacking players Lacazette, Ghezzal and Fekir are simply unstoppable and can break through any defense in Ligue1.

The defense also looks good with the exception of the spaces left open by fullback Jallet who often adventures upfront. Jallet is of great use to the attacking phase but his offensive appetite is not without consequences for the defense.

Creative midfielder Gourcuff played for about 10 minutes and most likely he will continue to start only on the bench as he comes after a long injury.

Opponents Metz struggled in the Cup away at 3rd division side Avranches. Metz managed to win only in extra time and according to reports the game was exhausting.

Against a 3rd division side Metz may have been more daring but usually they are very shy, even seem scared sometimes, don’t believe in their own chance, often abandon the fight and withdraw in defense hoping that an unseen force will come to their help.

There is no doubt that against Lyon Metz will focus entirely on defending. They have a limited offensive strength so striking on counters is out of the question, regardless the spaces left open by fullback Jallet.

Attacking-wise Lyon are pretty inventive and are certainly capable of opening up Metz even if they will defend on two lines. Lyon -1.5 at 2.12
