Lyon succeeded in imposing the rythm last round away at Marseille, but it was of no use seeing they lost 4-2 in the end.
They started with youngsters Fekir and Ferri in midfield who lack the necessary experience to deal with a team like Marseille. Midfielder Grenier made his comeback after injury and played for about half an hour. Even if he couldn’t make any difference it could be seen that his playing appetite is at high levels.
Central defender Bisevac was caught on the wrong foot a couple of times and made a poor game overall. The good news is that Kone fulfilled his suspension and can take Bisevac’s place in the lineup this round.
Lyon should welcome back midfielder Gourcuff who will increase the level of creativity.
Lorient were lucky to win last round against Ajaccio (finished 1-0). They scored an early goal but also got an early red card due to superficial defensive efforts. The game became really boring afterwards with neither side having any kind of motivation.
For more than a month already the season is over for Lorient and it can be seen in the way they perform. Upfront striker Aboubakar is the only one threatening opponents (Aboubakar is injured now) while at the back defenders are daydreamers. There will be even more holes against Lyon seeing that central defender Ecuele Manga will miss due to suspension.
Motivation is there for Lyon as they are trying to defend the 5th place that will take them to Europa League. The high possibility for both midfielders Grenier and Gourcuff to start makes Lyon big time favorites against Lorient who are already in vacation mode. Lyon -1 at 2.06
