Last round it was surprising to see Lyon winning in such a manner, especially since nothing at all announced that kind of result (Lyon won 4-0 away at Caen).
It was a one man show with forward Fekir scoring a hat-trick and delivering an assist. In the past years Fekir improved constantly and nowadays he is a key player for Lyon and could be a regular for the French national side. Unfortunately Fekir suffered a serious injury in the midweek international game against Portugal that will force him off the field for a couple of months. This is extremely bad news for Lyon and it comes exactly when forward Lacazette is completely out of form (Lacazette is also injured now).
Newly arrived Beauvue will be Lyon’s hope this season but unfortunately he won’t be able to compensate both for Fekir’s absence and Lacazette’s poor performances.
Lille struggled a bit last round against minnows Gazelec Ajaccio and only managed to win by a minimum margin (1-0). Attacking midfielder Boufal was extremely active and managed to score Lille’s first goal of the season. Boufal was Lille’s best player and will surely be missed against Lyon as he is suspended.
From an offensive point of view this season will be a total nightmare for Lille who have problems both in creating chances and converting them. They rely primarily on the defensive phase and that is why after 4 rounds they conceded only 1 goal and also scored just 1 goal.
Lille’s central midfielders concentrate mostly on killing the game and with so many players around the penalty box opponents have difficulties in creating tunnels.
Lilel may have to do without fullback Benzia as he is doubtful at the moment.
A couple of years back this game would have been the most important fixture of the week and would have got the attention of football lovers worldwide, but now is just an average game between two sides who so far were nothing special without their best players Fekir and Boufal. Don’t be surprised if no goal will be scored…
