Lyon – Guingamp Preview

Even if they lost, Lyon were surprisingly confident last round away at Monaco. Especially in the 2nd half they advanced a lot and had a couple of interesting attempts.

In the end the difference in budgets was seen on the scoreboard, but still, it was a step forward for Lyon. The defense looks stronger now with Bisevac returning last round from injury.

Adding to that are the comebacks of defenders Umtiti and Lopes. Now finally Lyon will be able to drop fragile Fofana from the starting 11. Midfielder Gourcuff will also return, same as winger Lacazette who was suspended last round.

Only good news for Lyon as you can see, even defender Dabo should be back, according to latest reports.

Especially Lacazette could be of major help since he can play striker (like against Rijeka). This way wasteful Gomis will be only a substitute and won’t be able to play with our nerves. With Gourcuff and Briand on the sides and Gonalons as a defensive midfielder once again Lyon could look like a real Ligue1 power.

For Guingamp the midweek Cup game against Evian was a bitter disappointment. After starting the game in force and leading at half time, Guingamp found themselves under complete domination in the 2nd half, and lost 2-1 in the end. They used most regulars, only defender Kerbrat and midfielder Atik received some resting time. This is why the defeat against Evian surely left its fingerprint on Guingamp’s morale and the consequences will be seen versus Lyon.

Lyon are in crisis, this is no secret anymore, but Guingamp could prove to be the perfect opponents for Lyon to bounce back. The circumstances are perfect given that Lyon will welcome back a bunch of important players and Guingamp are a bit low on confidence and maybe even tired.

There’s no doubt who will dictate the rhythm of the game and hold most possession. The most important question is: are Lyon able to open up Guingamp? Judging by the way guests looked vs Evian + important players being back for Lyon, I believe the job won’t be so hard.

Lyon to win opened at 1.90, now it’s 1.80 and will keep on dropping. At the moment odds are still worth some low to medium stakes.
