Lyon Bordeaux Preview

lyon bordeaux preview

Extremely disappointing performance by Lyon last round away at Dijon (lost 4-2). In the attacking phase everything looked good (at least until Lacazette got injured), but the major problem was once again defending the flanks, as fullbacks Rafael and Rybus were more focused on the offensive aspect of the game.

Central midfielders aren’t providing enough support for the defensive phase, and there’s no chemistry between central defenders Yanga – Mbiwa and Nkoulou. In these conditions it’s not surprising that opponents can easily reach the penalty box. Every counter against Lyon can be extremely dangerous, regardless the form or skills of opponents.

Last round important forward Lacazette suffered an injury, but it seems there is nothing serious and he should be available for action. On the other hand Lyon will have to do without forward Fekir and midfielder Valbuena.

Bordeaux were lucky to escape with a clean sheet last round against Nantes (won 1-0). Bordeaux conceded 6 goals in the first 2 rounds, and it’s no wonder coach Gourvennec decided to make a few changes.

Last round Bordeaux started with Toulalan and Sertic in central defense. Both of them are usually midfielders, and it was really weird to see them playing as central defenders. They did a good job in the end, but opponents’ inefficiency also played a major role.

Bordeaux have an open playing style, and a solid defense is necessary for their strategy to work. Coach Gourvennec is surely aware that using midfielders as central defenders won’t pay off in the long run, that is why Bordeaux recently transferred-in Polish defender Lewczuk.

Guests may miss midfielder / defender Toulalan who suffered an injury last round.

This should be a very entertaining encounter with fast paced actions and many of scoring opportunities on both ends. Bookies did well to adjust the odds, but there is still some value on goals. over 2.5 goals at 1.87

UPDATE: Lyon welcome back forward Ghezzal, but will miss Fekir and Valbuena. Guests will have to do without defender Toulalan and Guilbert
