Lyon Angers Preview

lyon angers preview

LYON

Lyon held more possession last week away at Nantes, but the reality is opponents were closer of getting the three points since they had the best of chances.

This is a bad moment for Lyon who got eliminated from the European competitions (won’t even go to Europa League) and won only 1 point in the last 3 Ligue1 rounds.

Until now Lyon used to rely exclusively on the actions created by midfielder Valbuena and fullbacks / wingers. Especially the right flank was very active and often made the difference. But now fullback Jallet is injured, replacement Rafael also got injured last round, and playmaker Valbuena is not himself since the sex tape scandal.

Valbuena was only in the stands last round, and is not yet clear if he was injured or only needed some time to get his mind straight.

Lyon will once again miss defender Yanga-Mbiwa who is suspended.

ANGERS

According both to stats and reality in the field, Angers have the second best defense in the tournament with only 9 goals conceded in 16 games.

They start most games with 3 forwards, but actually all players are involved in the defensive phase. Players are very disciplined and the high level of organization is the primary reason for being 3rd in the table.

No matter how solid they may be in defense, sooner or later opponents manage to find a way inside the box, but luckily for Angers keeper Butelle seems to have super powers and nothing gets past him.

BETTING

No matter the poor form Lyon won’t sit back and wait for time to pass, they will do their usual game trying hard to get back to winning days. Angers won’t mind defending especially since they are very good at it, and since a counter attacking approach will suit them perfectly. Angers +1 at 1.95
