Lorient St Etienne Preview

Striker Roux losing possession

So far Lorient have performed better than expected considering they have lost key player Jordan Ayew. Last round Lorient conceded very early, even before players got a chance to settle in the field. For 90 minutes Lorient constantly pushed the game forward looking for the equalizer that arrived in extra time (1-1 against Bastia).

Winger Moukandjo scored his first goal for Lorient and newly transferred forward Waris played his first game. Although he is not bursting with talent Waris is a hard worker and runs continuously for 90 minutes. He is a constant threat for opponents mostly because he is always full of energy. The thing is Waris already got injured and will miss for about 3 rounds.

When he will return and all players will achieve full potential Lorient will be pretty powerful with Guerreiro and Moukandjo on the flanks and Waris upfront.

St Etienne are coming after a surprisingly difficult Europa League trip to Moldova in which they used the best team possible (finished 1-1). In Ligue1 they have started the season with the wrong foot collecting only 1 point in two rounds. They have conceded 3 goals so far, all following free kicks.

It is pretty funny to see them struggling for 5 minutes to arrange the wall and then all players go in different directions when opponents take the free kick.

The good news is that newly arrived winger Bahebeck fits in perfectly in St Etienne’s game plan. With Hamouma on one side and Bahebeck on the other St Etienne can be really dangerous upfront, even if lone striker Roux is not exactly St Etienne material…

This time bookies got it right as odds are more balanced and reflect the reality so far. With both sides creating mostly down the flanks, central midfielders will only participate in the defensive phase and this can turn out to be a pretty boring and uneventful game. Another fun bet on 0-0 correct score.

UPDATE: Lorient welcome back defender Kone and midfielder Mostefa after injuries. St Etienne will miss winger Bahebeck and fullback Assou Ekotto.
