You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to realize that Lorient have defensive problems.
I have kids in my neighborhood playing better football than Lorient’s defenders…
Ecuele Manga, Lautoa, Bourillon, they are always late and misjudge the ball’s trajectory. Central defender Kone can also be added to that list, as he only returned last week from injury and is out of form.
Defensively speaking, Lorient are a wreck. They will welcome back fullback Gassama after suspension, but this won’t change anything, as he’s got the exact same level and profile as fullback Baca (the one he will replace).
On a brighter note, forwards Diallo and Sunu will return after injury. Most probably one of them will replace useless Aboubakar upfront, increasing the offensive potential.
Lorient are getting more desperate as round goes by and this is visible in their playing style. They are way more offensive and aggressive than usual in the attempt to end the losing streak. Sadly for them the precarious defense can’t offer safety and stability.
Upfront they look better and are always capable of scoring. Even if wingers’ performances could always improve, Lorient can create dangerous action on the flanks through Monnet – Pacquet and Jouffre.
Hopefully forward Aboubakar will be left on the bench and Aliadiere will have a proper partner who will help him improve the finishing rate.
Doukoure got injured last week and will most likely miss, meaning that coach Gourcuff will be forced to use either Kone or Bourillon from the start (both of them out of form).
Sochaux made the surprise of the round last week after taking 1 point in front of Monaco. It was a very weird game in which Monaco started in force, created many chances, scored twice, and started playing around with opportunities in a manner I have never seen before. Offensively they are one of the best sides in Ligue1, but last round they looked like amateurs…and not because Sochaux were good at defending…
Defender Carlao made more defensive blunders than usual and defensive midfielders Lopy and Nogueira were in the stands signing autographs instead preventing Monaco from creating.
Upfront forward Mayuka was in great form. He picked up an injury and was forced out, but according to latest reports it’s nothing serious and he should be fully fit for Lorient.
But most important of all, Sochaux will welcome back the entire right side (suspended last round): fullback Corchia and winger Contout. You must know that usually most of Sochaux’s actions are initiated on the right flank by the 2 players mentioned. Having them back will be of immense help to the offensive phase.
I see a game between 2 desperate teams (more or less), with many defensive errors, with lots of shots on target and at least 3 goals. Odds for over 2.5 are way too high at 2.10. Bookies will declare bankruptcy after this game.
