Great start of the season for Lorient who managed to win away at Monaco 2-1.
Although they were dominated for most of the game and also missed a couple of important players, Lorient kept it tight at the back and successfully exploited on counters.
This counter tactic fits Lorient as they have decent defenders who always receive support from midfielders. Forward Aboubakar has great ball control and because of midfielder’s Coutadeur through balls he can create dangerous opportunities on his own.
It seems they are comfortable with being underdogs as it perfectly suits their skills. But given the way they played and their capabilities, Lorient will struggle when they will need to be in charge of the game and open up defensive minded opponents.
Keeper Lecomte, who arrived from Dijon this summer, made an excellent game and without his cat-like reflexes Lorient wouldn’t have won.
Lorient will welcome back forward Ayew and defender Ecuele Manga who were suspended last round. Also defender Gassama and winger Barthelme should return after injury. On the other hand winger Sunu suffered an injury and most likely will miss.
Crazy game between Nice and Toulouse with lots of thrills and goals (Nice won 3-2). Following this game we can draw a couple of conclusions regarding Nice.
First of all their defense looks very poor after central defender Pejcinovic and keeper Ospina transferred-out. They brought in keeper Delle but he got injured so Nice are forced to use young Hassen who was very hesitant against Toulouse. There is no doubt he will be a liability whenever he will start.
But there are also good news for Nice as striker Cvitanich seems to be in great form with an increased playing appetite. Not necessarily because he scored twice, but because he always managed to create numerical superiority and find open spaces for opponents to activate him. Last season was disastrous for Cvitanich but it seems those days are gone.
There are no news regarding the injury of important fullback Kolodziejczak so most probably he will miss again. Anyway Nice have to learn to play without him as he just received an offer from Swansea.
Winger Bautheac got out injured last week and is doubtful.
Lorient may have made a great game but things are different now, they are favorites and will need to change strategy. With Cvitanich upfront Nice are always able to be the ones speculating on counters.
UPDATE: Looks like defender Gassam and winger Barthelme are still out injured for hosts. Nice will miss central defender Bodmer, midfielder Digard and striker Cvitanich. Still no bet.
