In spite winning last round at Ajaccio Lorient had a disappointing performance. Only Ajaccio’s confused playing style made it possible for Lorient to take all points (won 2-1).
It was the 6th straight win but it was clearly visible they took the foot off the gas. Lorient is not really a team belonging in the upper half and having ambitions for European places. Their are punching above their weight at the moment. The extra efforts made in the last 6 rounds have led to tiredness, exhaustion and a felling of security and accomplishment that demotivates players.
First choice keepers Audard and Chaigneau are injured. Reynet will be the goalkeeper against Lyon. It was a time when he was the 2nd choice keeper but Chaigneau’s performances downgraded Reynet.
Winger Jouffre will also miss due to injury. He was very active in the last rounds so his absence could leave a mark.
Lyon won the midweek Cup game against Reims without much emotions. We can’t talk about tiredness in Lyon’s case as they are accustomed with playing in the midweek (have been playing in Europa League and used many players throughout the season so far)
About a month and a half ago editorials on Lyon’s poor form were written on a conveyor belt, but few bothered to mention the injuries and suspensions that plagued the squad. As soon as all important players returned from injury Lyon got back to winning days and players’ confidence skyrocketed.
In last rounds Lyon have conceded quite a lot of goals, but in spite of that they have a pretty solid defense. The only one not making the defensive phase is striker Gomis.
Play-maker Grenier or winger Lacazette constitute the 1st line of defense, and by the time opponents reach defensive midfielder Gonalons they are already tired and have few solutions available.
Bookies have made Lorient small favorites, but the way Lyon play at the moment they won’t return home empty handed. Lyon +0.25 at the odds of 1.73 is a very decent bet.
