Lorient Lille Preview

lorient lille preview

Lorient made a decent game last week away at St Etienne, but they missed a couple of important players and collapsed in the final quarter (lost 2-0).

Forward Waris, winger Cabot and defenders Musavu – King and Rose missed the game, and most probably will sit out again, since there are no updates regarding their injuries. They will be joined on the sidelines by defender Traore, who also suffered an injury and will miss for the rest of the season.

Lorient are only 7 points above the relegation zone, with 9 points in play until the end of the season. Mathematically everything can happen, but in reality Lorient can relax, as relegation candidates Reims and Gazelec Ajaccio can’t win all games.

Disappointing result for Lille in the midweek game against Angers. Lille controlled the entire game, continuously attacked, but unfortunately couldn’t find the net and had to split points in the end (finished 0-0).

They were still pretty dangerous when going forward, but opponents were highly organized and stood ground with confidence.

In the past, Lille would have already been qualified for Europa League after playing the Coupe de la Ligue final against PSG. But now things have changed, and the finalist won’t qualify for Europe anymore.

Lille are now fighting for the 5th position in Ligue1, a place that will surely assure a presence in Europa League. They can also qualify from the 6th place, only if PSG will beat Marseille in the Coupe de France final.

Even without a couple of important players Lorient can still be dangerous, especially on home ground. Lille never adventure upfront, and there are good chances this game will also have more action in the final quarter, just like St Etienne – Lorient last round.

UPDATE: It will be difficult for Lorient without defenders Rose, Musavu – King, Toure and forward Waris

Lorient: Lecomte, Chaigneau – Gassama, Paye, Lautoa, Karamoko, Bellugou, Guerreiro – Barthelmé, Cabot, Mesloub, Ndong, Mulumba, Jouffre, Philippoteaux – Traoré, Moukandjo, Jeannot

Lille : Enyeama, Elana – Corchia, D.Sidibé, Soumaoro, Sunzu, Béria, Y.Koné – Mavuba, Balmont, Obbadi, Amadou, M.Amalfitano, Boufal, R.Lopes – Benzia, Nangis, Eder
