Lorient recorded a disappointing result last round at Nantes (lost 1-0 in the dying moments). Lorient had the best chances and at one point the pressure exerted was constant and cornered Nantes.
Forwards Aboubakar and Alidiere appeared to be in a contest, who can miss the target from the closest range…
Besides forwards’ ineffectiveness all other compartments successfully did their job (except the goal conceded on counter in the last minutes…).
Winger Monnet-Paquet and fullback Gassama suffered light knocks last round but it was nothing serious and they will be able to play on Saturday.
Barthelme is still out injured, but replacements Sunu / Jouffre were very active against Nantes and to be honest the difference in quality is not that big.
All in all Lorient will be able to use the same lineup as last round.
Guingamp made a good game last week against St Etienne (0-0). If they had the courage to assume more risks a win wouldn’t have been out of the question. This lack of courage is dragging Guingamp down. Especially away from home there are times in which they simply refuse to play and try to kill the game.
Most of their offensive actions are carried on the flanks where coach Gourvennec has 2 sets of wingers available. Beauvue and Langil who excel in speed (for Guingamp’s standards that is) and Giresse and Atik who have a better ball control. Unfortunately for Guingamp the overall attributes of all those players are at a mediocre level.
The offensive phase relies almost entirely on crosses inside the box. There is little to no support from central midfielders (Sankhare and Mathis) who almost never get near the penalty box to receive balls from wingers.
Not only because of what’s going on in the field, but also because of stats (5 wins at home and only 1 away) Guingamp is a home team and they don’t have many ambitions when playing away.
Forward Mandanne suffered an injury and will miss this game. On the other hand striker Douniama and defender Lemaitre returned to training after being injured.
Lorient have a solid defense and only with crosses Guingamp won’t be able to achieve much. Most likely Lorient will once again corner the opponent and hopefully this time strikers will be more efficient.
in the eyes of the fans this is considered a derby and maybe this is why the odds are so high for Lorient… At 1.88 Lorient to win is simply a must take.
