Lille Troyes Preview

lille troyes preview

Lille started last round in force, created a few scoring opportunities in the first half, but unfortunately couldn’t find the net. They got punished immediately after the break and couldn’t find a way back in the game (lost 1-0 at Bordeaux).

It may seem that once again Lille have offensive problems, but the reality is that ever since coach Antonetti took charge Lille are more active and pushy, and create way more scoring opportunities.

They have a couple of talented players doing the offensive phase (Boufal, Benzia, Bautheac) and it’s only a matter of picking up form and confidence.

They used a mixed squad in the Cup game against 4th division side Trelissac suffered a shameful defeat (lost at penalties). Using a couple of reserves is no excuse for losing against a team made from accountants, lawyers, teachers and so on. Hopefully Lille will now be more determined trying to wash away the shame.

After only 15 minutes Troyes were already leading 2-0 last round against Rennes. Fans were ecstatic as Troyes looked pretty close of getting their first victory this season. But everything changed after only a couple of minutes when opponents started to apply constant pressure and Troyes completely collapsed (Rennes won 4-2).

Defensively Troyes are a mess and failed interventions are something common in their game. Although they scored twice last round, attacking wise Troyes are way below Ligue1 standards. Nowadays midfielder Camus is their most dangerous player, and even managed to score in the last two rounds thanks to long range attempts.

Troyes also used a couple of reserves in the Cup game against minnows Concarneau, but due to their situation Troyes simply don’t know how to underestimate opponents and had an easy game (won 3-1).

This should be a one sided encounter with Lille in charge from the first whistle. Troyes is the perfect opponent for Lille to pick up some form and finally fulfill more of their potential. Lille -1.25 at 2.01
