Lille Reims Preview

lille reims preview

Really disappointing performance from Lille last week away at Montpellier. Attacking-wise nobody expected much from Lille, but defensively they should have been more lucid and confident (Montpellier won 3-0).

Opponents were very pushy from the first whistle, but only in second half they took complete charge of the game and Lille simply stopped fighting.

Besides the three points, Lille also lost two key players, defender Civelli and playmaker Boufal, who suffered injuries last round. If they won’t recover in time, Lille’s overall strength will be significantly diminished.

Hosts will also have to do without winger Bautheac who is suspended.

From an attacking points of view, Reims are in a good form for a couple of rounds already. But now they also improved in the defensive phase, and aren’t making the same childish mistakes they used to.

They still use only 3 defenders, but now midfielders seem more aware of teammates problems and provide constant support.

All attacking players (De Preville, Charbonnier and Bifouma) are in excellent form, and either scored or delivered assists last week. Even substitute Bangoura managed to find the net. But the most important thing is that Reims’ forwards really enjoy playing counter attacking football, and don’t need midfielders’ assistance in the offensive phase. This way midfielders can concentrate entirely on preventing opponents from building up play.

These sides are at opposite ends at the moment. Lille are in an offensive standstill (for a couple of seasons already….) and now they also lost form in the defensive department, while Reims are in full confidence and are playing efficient football. REIMS +0.5 at 1.95
